The Traditional Gratitude Journal & How To Use It To Generate Real Gratitude
Sunday, August 26th, 2007It is a very valuable practice to take the time everyday to find at least five things in your life that you are grateful for. It is even more powerful if you write this down in a journal. Like many people, I first encountered this idea from Oprah Winfrey.
There are many reasons why this practice is so valuable. There is evidence that the very act of focusing on what is positive in your life improves physical and mental health. You will end up with less stress, sleep better, and will be happier all around.
In addition to this, there is one simple step that I have found to be very helpful in this process. The step is just this: make sure that you take the time to truly feel the gratitude. Whereas it is true that the simple act of looking for the blessings in your life will bring many benifits, if you stop long enough to really notice what it feels like to be grateful, these benefits will happen much more quickly.
